Technologies for efficient cultivation and use of algae

New technology-oriented value-added chains or networks must be established to implement a knowledge-based bio-economy using less and less fossil fuels, in order to develop the bio resource of algae for the medium-sized economy. The target is development of a network made up preferably of medium-sized enterprises and research

facilities to develop new technologies, products, methods and services for future cultivation and use of algae. The focus is on optimisation of process control, measuring and regulation technology, innovative peripheral systems

(drying, drainage, preparation), connection to aqua cultures and development of innovative products from algae (cosmetics, food supplements and feedstuffs).

 Alternatives to animal testing

The network has the vision of developing new test approaches and optimising and validating existing methods

in order to drive the distribution, acceptance and admission of alternative and supplementary methods to animal testing in the different areas of application. The target of the network is shared development of innovative methods and products in the areas of toxicology, chemicals evaluation, medicines safety and diagnostics that can replace or reduce animal testing. These methods and products are not only to reduce the number of lab animals, but also permit faster, more cost-efficient and reliable identification of potentially toxic substances.

Antimicrobial surfaces and hygienic coatings

 

The Antimik Network aims to provide preventive protection against infections through innovative coatings. The network initiates and manages new developments of partners from industry and science. It pursues technological and economic goals in equal measure and is responsible for the market launch of products and services. The focus is on the development of coating materials along their value chain, optimal application processes, flanked by integration concepts and accompanying services.

BioEconomy network for research and innovation

The network's leading vision is driving the bio-economic transformation of the industry and society by development of bio-based solution approaches in light of current and future challenges and thus laying the basis for future economic growth. The network focuses on the material use of biomass (agricultural crops, harvest residues

and other waste bio resources) to produce and acquire raw materials for applications in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry and for various areas of the chemical industry.

Innovative system solutions for private households, companies and Hospitals

The network KlarWasser is to contribute to solving one of the most important social challenges: the provision of a sufficient amount of clean, micro-pollutant-free drinking water. It specifically deals with innovative system solutions for private households, companies and hospitals. The removal of very small amounts of reactive active substances from chemistry and pharmaceutics is to be made possible for medium- to long-term new investments in water treatment in Germany in the scope of this network. For this, the network partners have multiple concepts available that are to be optimised, evaluated and scaled up in individual applications as well as in modular combination solutions.

Magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical diagnostics and therapy

Intensive research activities in the field of nano- and biotechnology have produced interesting nanomaterials with

adjustable properties. For example, to avoid side effects in cancer therapy, magnetic nanoparticles can be used as carrier materials for targeted, locally limited drug release. They are also suitable as functional contrast agents for

new imaging procedures in medical diagnostics. The aim of the network is to further develop such new processes and products based on magnetic nanoparticles to clinical application and market readiness. The network combines partners with expertise in the production and modification of nanoparticles, in physical modelling and manufacturers of medical devices and clinical users.

Smart and linked lab of the future

The target of the network is the development and standardisation of innovative lab technologies, applications and solutions based on these, which simplify the processes, improve Quality with concurrent increase of efficiency and increase process safety. Focuses include modularisation and integration of functions and components for a

flexible lab environment that can be adapted individually to the respective requirements and that adjusts itself accordingly. Digitalisation and Networking of all institutions involved in the value-added chain of the lab that permit

real-time provision of all the relevant information, control and monitoring of the processes, play a role as well. Not least, however, integration of Robot systems in light of direct and optimised interaction between man and machine,

and automation of the processes are at the focus.

Intelligent medicine-technology systems close to the body for diagnosis, rehabilitation and

prevention 

Technology worn close to the body in the area of diagnosis, rehabilitation and prevention (salutogenesis) offer enormous potentials for medium-sized enterprises. Although many developments and solutions exist already, there is still an enormous demand for solutions at the interface between medicine Technology, man-technology interaction and the information and communication technologies. The network vision is using the enormous developments on the second health market, in order to drive developments while at the same time building a bridge to professional developments for the first health market.

Innovative approaches for production and quality assurance 

Zellkultur 2.0 has the target of developing innovative approaches for production and quality assurance for new applications of human, animal and plant cells in the areas of medicine, pharmaceutics and nutrition. In contrast to the current procedures, mostly adjusted to research and development in the lab, future processes are to permit

individual use in the cellular-technical production environment. At the same time, the individual needs of the different cell types are to be considered in order to optimise the respective growth and synthesis behaviour. In order to implement the vision, Zellkultur 2.0 brings together network specialists from the different work areas, developers of the required technologies and users. The subject areas go from storage and transport of cells to medium analysis and sensors, to production of diagnostics and therapeutics.
